The FMCC Raiders bowled in their first match of the season on Sunday and finished second overall at the Hawk Invitational, held at King Pin Lanes in Rome. The Raiders finished second overall to the Vikings of HVCC. Individual honors were claimed by Captain Evan Sawitzki (ND-BG) as the Men's overall champion, and Gabby Jenks (Ft. Plain) placed second as the Women's champion.

"I thought overall we did pretty well considering it was our first tournament of the year. We have a few things to clean up and I expect us to improve. I was really impressed with Evan and Gabby of course. Gabby hadn't bowled competitively in over a year and with very little practice, as she just recently joined the team, I thought she did great. Steven Hulbert (Johnstown) also stood out as he improved his score in every one of his six games yesterday," stated Head Coach Tom Rathbun.

Evan Sawitzki led all bowlers with a 1217 total, boasting high scores of 239, 234, and 212. Co-Captain Andrew Bauer (Shen) had high games of 217, and 203. Steven Hulbert had highs of 223, 213, and 199. Joe VanAvery's (Ft. Plain) featured games were 200 and 195. Kyle Davis (Fonda-Fultonville) posted a high score of 176.

"I also wanted to make mention of a new bowler to the team, Massa Masri (Gloversville). Massa is learning the game for the first time and has worked really hard with Assistant Coach Selena Barber. She's not quite ready for regular competition yet but when she bowled in the Baker format yesterday, she didn't have a miss. The entire team was so happy for her, hard work does pay off," commented Coach Rathbun.

The Raiders will host the first Conference match of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 18th, 1 P.M., at Arterial Lanes in Gloversville.
