Steven Hulbert had a remarkable day for the FMCC Bowling team as they opened Conference play on Wednesday at Arterial Lanes in Gloversville. In the early set of 3 games, he posted scores of 254, 225, and 218 for a total of 697. Not to be outdone, he posted even better scores in the second set of 3 rolling 247, 245, and 237 for a total of 729. That 729 score is the second highest in school history.

"Steven was remarkable today, he was in the pocket all day and the few occasions he wasn't, he picked up his spares. Steven works hard at his game, and it really paid off today for him today," commented Coach Tom Rathbun.

Bowling with Steven was Hayden Auspelmyer who had a very good series himself.  In the first round he posted scores of 222, 179, and 198 for a 599 and in the second round had scores of 222, 148, and 217 for a 588 total.

"Hayden joined us for second semester and has fit right in. For his first Conference match ever, his scores were very impressive," said Rathbun.

The women's team faced a very tough Herkimer squad in both sets. High score for the day for The Raiders was Joanna Whitman with a 236. Other high scores were Crystal Coleman with top scores of 190, 189, and 183. Fellow co-captain Gabby Jenks had a 183. Kyliegh Lindsey also posted a score of 183. Newcomer Marque Herr who started bowling less than a month ago on a competitive level had a high game of 152.

"The ladies worked hard but just ran into a Herkimer buzz saw. I'm proud of all of them but especially Marque who filled a need for us and wanted to try bowling. She works hard at it and has gotten so much better in less than a month. Coach's Dave Hayward and Selena Barber have worked with her and the improvement is evident," stated Coach Rathbun.

The Raiders next match will be on Sunday, January 21st at Kingpin Lanes for the Hawk Invitational. Action begins at 9:00 AM
