Two Raiders Recognized Nationally for Academic Excellence

JOHNSTOWN – Volleyball player Emily Robinson and baseball shortstop Greg Ruddy have received awards for Exemplary Academic Achievement by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Both of these Raiders had already received honors from FMCC for their academic and athletic achievements, and now they have received national honors.

Emily Robinson

Robinson served as Co-Captain and played Middle and Outside Hitter on the 2013 volleyball team. The team finished third in the Mountain Valley Conference tournament.

The volleyball team earned the highest team grade point average (GPA) of the seven Raider teams. Head Coach Rachael Salvione expressed her pride in the academic attitudes of her players and of Robinson in particular.

In May, Robinson received the FM Female Academic Athlete of the Year award at FM’s annual Athletics Awards Banquet.

Robinson hails from Northville. She majored in Business Administration.

Greg Ruddy

Ruddy was a strong contributor to the FM community not only in the classroom and on the baseball field, but also in student government. He served as the 2013-14 President of the FM Student Government Association.

Ruddy led the baseball team in hits, doubles, triples, batting average, and runs batted in, and he had the team’s second-most stolen bases.

Head Coach Dave Hennessey stresses academic success from the time the ballplayers arrive in the fall until their season ends in May. Greg Ruddy more than met Coach Hennessey’s standards on the field and off it.

Ruddy is a native of Troy, NY. He majored in Individual Studies.
