Seahawks Win Slugfest 17-16

Seahawks Win Slugfest 17-16

NORTH EAST, MD – The Division II Cecil College Seahawks won a 17-16 slugfest with the Raiders in Game One on Sunday. The FM Nine built big early leads, but the home team came back to win by a run.

Mid-March weather is often mild in Maryland, but not his year. Temps in the high 40s and stiff winds made for unfriendly baseball conditions.

Game One

The Raiders jumped out to leads of 8-3 and 12-4, but the Seahawks scored seven runs in the fifth inning and six more in the sixth to garner a 17-16 win.

James Waters hit two home runs for FM, and Chris Rockefeller, Andrew Houser, and Taylor Vavruick also went deep. Rockefeller's blast was a three-run shot, and Houser's round tripper was a two-run dinger

Rockefeller was on the mound for FM. The sophomore leftie held the 'Hawks in check for four innings. Rockefeller was relieved by Vavruick in the fifth. Baylee Hall also entered the game in the fifth and took the loss.

Schedule Change

FM was originally scheduled to play a doubleheader with Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, NC on March 24 during the Raiders' spring break trip. That plan has been modified, and now FM will still play two games, but the first will be with Jamestown CC at Southeastern, and the second game will be with Southeastern.

Jamestown is a Region 3 team, as is FM. There are 17 baseball teams in Region 3. The region is divided into eastern and western divisions for postseason seeding. FM is an eastern team, and the Jamestown Jayhawks are a western team. The postseason begins with the best teams from the east playing the best from the west. Last season FM's opponent in the postseason first round was Niagara CCC.
