Raiders Drop Weekend Series to Vikings

FM Baseball took on the Vikings from Hudson Valley in a weekend 4 game series.  FM hosted HVCC on Saturday for a double header and then traveled to Joe Bruno Stadium for a night cap double header against the Vikings on Sunday.

Game One at FMCC

The Raiders scattered 10 hits on Saturday, but weren't able to push enough runs across, and lost 11-5 to the Hudson Valley at home in Game 1. 

Paul VanWarner was a workhorse on the rubber for the Raiders. VanWarner pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed no earned runs, eight hits and two walks while striking out one.

Baylee Hall ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed nine runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked seven and struck out one.

The lead stayed with the Hudson Valley CC after the first, when they scored nine runs on a two-run double.  Two runs in the bottom of the third helped the Raiders close their deficit to 9-2. A sacrifice fly by Ryan Cullam and a hit by pitch gave the Raiders life. Finally, HV's Spadafore induced an inning-ending ground out from Justin PutnamAyden Healy went a perfect 1-1 at the plate for the Raiders. He singled in the second inning.

One run in the bottom of the fourth helped the Raiders close their deficit to 9-3. An RBI single by Hall triggered the FM comeback. Two runs in the bottom of the sixth helped the Raiders close their deficit to 11-5. A hit by pitch and an RBI single by Patrick Hart sparked the Raiders' rally. Finally, Hollowood got Kyle Agresta to ground out to end the threat.

Game Two at FMCC

FM's Patrick Hart was phenomenal on the mound for the Raiders, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders dropped game two, 2-1. He pitched seven innings and allowed no earned runs on nine hits. 

The Raiders scored their only run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Hart in the fifth inning.  Hudson Valley scored two runs in the 6th inning to top the Raiders. 

Game One at HVCC

Ayden Healy went 2-4 at the plate, but the Raiders fell 12-4 to Hudson Valley at Joe Bruno Stadium on Sunday.

The Viking's Jeff Bink, Brandon Cellucci, Darren Conte and Connor McDonough combined for nine hits and six RBIs.

Kyle Agresta was charged with the loss for FM. He allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out one.

The Raiders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  They got one-run boosts in each of the second, fifth and seventh. In the second, the Raiders scored on an RBI double by Patrick Hart, scoring Jake Petralia.

The Vikings never trailed after scoring five runs in the third on two singles and a two-run triple by Bink.

Game Two at HVCC

Lucas Calkins went 1-1, but the Raiders still fell to the Hudson Valley CC 12-7 in seven innings in game two.  Calkins reached base four times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He doubled in the seventh inning.

The Vikings handled the Raiders pitching as six hitters combined for 16 hits, nine RBIs and 11 runs scored.  Justin Putnam took the loss for the FMCC Raiders. He allowed 11 runs in four innings, walked five and struck out two.

The Vikings jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The scoreboard lit up again for HV when McDonough scored on a sacrifice fly. The pushed three runs across in each of the second, fourth and fifth.

One run in the top of the seventh helped the Raiders close their deficit to 12-7. An RBI double by Calkins set off the FM rally. It was enough as FM dropped the final game of the series.  

The Raiders enter their final week of regular season play on Tuesday, May 10th when they travel to Jefferson CC.  Games are set for 2:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m.
