Hennessey Earns 250th Victory

The FM baseball team completed a four game series against the Mohawk Valley Hawks.  The Raiders split the series winning both games at home, but falling twice on the road.  Head Coach Dave Hennessey earned his 250th win in a 2-1 victory on Tuesday. That marks Hennessey's 528th overall victory as a head coach.

On Tuesday, the Raiders hosted the Hawks in the double header.  FM won 5-4 in 8 innings and won 2-1 in game two.  In game one, MVCC took an early 2-0 lead heading into the 5th inning.  FM answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning.  Derek Lee walked to start the inning and Noah Wygel advanced Lee on a sac bunt.  Joshua McCaffrey singled to right field and Lee advanced to third.  William Newcomb drilled a double, scoring Lee and McCaffrey.  Dan Parslow singled, scoring Newcomb and the Raiders led 3-2.

Mohawk regained the lead in in the sixth inning scoring two, but FM scored again in the bottle half of the inning and the game was tied 4-4.

Michael Reith double in the bottom of the 8th and advanced to third on wild pitch.  Derek Lee singled scoring Reith for the walk off victory. 

Benjamin McHarg was on the hill for the Raiders, going 6.1 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs.  Wygel earned the victory throwing 1.2 innings allowing just one hit and no runs.

Lee led the way offensively going 3-4 at the plate.  Reith, Newcomb and McCaffrey all had two hits apiece.

Game two saw strong pitching for both teams.  Dan Parslow was stellar on the mound for FM throwing a complete game, striking out six, allowing nine hits and one run. 

Michael Brown singled in the second inning and Derek Lee doubled to score Brown, taking a 1-0 lead.  In the third, McCaffrey doubled and Newcomb followed with an RBI single. Parslow kept the Mohawk Valley offense in check to secure Hennessey's 250th victory.

On Thursday, FM traveled to Utica to take on the Hawks once again.  The Raiders dropped both games 11-8 and 5-4.

In game one, FM took an 8-4 lead heading into the 5th inning.  The Hawks had a big 5th inning scoring 6 runs to secure the victory.

The offense had nine hits in game one and Parslow led going 3-for-5 at the plate. Mike Smith was on the pitcher's mound for FM.  He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing ten runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking one. Alex VanDeusen and Victor Bare entered the game in relief.

Michael Brown had a strong start for FM on the mound in the final game of the series.  He went six innings three runs on four hits.  The Hawks scored two runs in the final inning for a 5-4 walk off win. 

McHarg and McCaffrey each had multiple hits for the Raiders.

FM will play a four game series with Adirondack this weekend.  They travel to Glens Falls on Saturday and the Raiders will host the Timberwolves on Sunday at Noon.
