Timberwolves attack, send Raiders to defeat

QUEENSBURY – The SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves have been playing good basketball of late, and they continued to perform quite well against FM on Saturday afternoon. This is the best squad that Adirondack has had in recent years, and a large crowd came to see them play.

The Raiders had posted a strong win over Onondaga in their last outing. They rode to Queensbury hoping to move their season record above the .500 mark, but the Timberwolves were ready to prowl and sprint and take down their prey.

FM got off to a good start.  Khaleeq Baum netted two buckets and a free throw, Kadeem Stanislas drove for two, and the Raiders led 7-0. They were also rebounding and stealing the ball well.

Adirondack bounced back with a three-pointer, two FT's and a field goal, and the score was tied at 7-7.

Jordan Stewart scored on a nice inbounds pass from Stanislas. Marquis Edwards hit from outside the arc. Dondre Simmons drove for two. Kevin Scott hit a long two. Once again the visitors led by seven, but then the T-Wolves clawed their way back. The home team took the lead 20-19 with 8:31 left in the half.

The two squads were playing on even terms, and FM's Baum scored 14 points in the first half, but the Raiders led by just two at halftime, 37-35.

The T-Wolves tied the game to open the second half and then pulled out in front by a few points. FM suddenly was having trouble scoring, and Adirondack was playing tenacious defense.

The home team was also putting on a great display of shooting from beyond the arc.  In all, they drained 12 from three-point land, while the Raiders tallied six threes.

Adirondack built a 77-66 lead with about three and a half minutes remaining. Darius Ward sank two threes. All of the Raiders were working hard, but the Timberwolves managed their lead well. When the final buzzer sounded, the 'Wolves had an 86-78 win.

FM is back in action Sunday afternoon. They will ride north to Watertown to meet the Jefferson CC Cannoneers. Jefferson's men have a 3-3 record. The tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
