Raiders Better Barons 78-69

JOHNSTOWN – The Corning Red Barons came to the Raiders Den for a non-conference game on Monday afternoon. FM had a solid outing and defeated the Barons 78-69.

Raider Kadeem Stanislas had another outstanding game. The hard-working senior tallied 28 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and dished out 10 assists.

FM center Carlos Rivera opened the scoring by pulling down an offensive rebound and putting it back. The Barons scored, and then Rivera hit with a jumper from just to the right of the lane for a 4-2 FM lead. Kenny Barr scored a three-pointer from the center of the arc. FM was ahead 7-4, but neither team's offense was clicking yet.

Stanislas scored the first of his 28 points by putting back a rebound. Tyrone Davis drove for a field goal, and then he drove for another. He was fouled on that second drive, and he sank the free throw. Seven and a half minutes had elapsed, and FM led 14-6.

The Raiders maintained that lead for a while and made it a 20-10 margin halfway through the period when Stanislas scored with a pretty reverse layup. Khaleeq Baum expanded the lead with a field goal. FM was up 28-16 with four minutes left in the half.

The FM Five were playing with their usual high intensity. The Barons closed the gap to eight, but Stanislas sank a trey just before the half. FM led 39-38 at the break. Stanislas had scored 13 points in the first 20 minutes. Baum had contributed seven. Eight Raiders had seen action, and all eight were contributing.

The second half began, and FM's offense sputtered. It was the third game in a row that saw the Raiders have difficulty getting their offense back on track right after the break. The Barons were attacking and closing in on FM's lead. Kenny Barr's three-pointer had made the score 44-32 early in the half, but the battling Barons chipped away and in less than five minutes had cut the score to 44-43.

Dondre Davis hit for three. Baum scored a field goal. Marquis Edwards nailed a three, and FM had some breathing room, leading 53-44.

Dondre Simmons sank two from the line. Stanislas drove for a nice two, and then he hit a three from the left side. FM led 62-50. But once again the Barons fought back. With 5:50 to play the visitors from the Southern Tier trailed by only four: 66-62.

Stanislas then hit for two. Baum took a nice pass from Rivera and scored. Barr scored both attempts of a one-and-one. FM again led by 10, at 72-62.

The Raiders held that lead. Fittingly, the final points of the game were scored by Stanislas, who sank two from the line. FM won 78-69.
