Jefferson Men Lead Early but Raiders Win 80-71

JOHNSTOWN – The Cannoneers of Jefferson CC were still hungry for their first win of the season.  They had lost to Schenectady CCC by only four points, 68-64, on Saturday. Jefferson was ready to work hard, and they had 6' 9" freshman center Islam Haggag, who proved to be a force at times during the game.

The visitors outplayed the Raiders in the early going. FM did not score at all until the game was more than three minutes old. Jefferson soon led 16-8. Then Raheem Small got the Raiders on the board by sinking two free throws.

Jonathan Brioso made a nice spin move and closed the gap to 16-12.  Dondre Davis grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with a jumper. 16-14. Then, with 5:06 left in the half, Tremaine Elder netted two FTs, and the score was tied at 21-21. Marquis Edwards added two more from the line, and FM had the lead. As the first half neared its end, Jordan Stewart scored with a nice, underhand reach, Kyle Giddings tallied two with a putback, and Edwards hit for three from the left corner. FM led 37-25 at the break.

The Raiders led 52-44 midway through the second half. Jefferson closed to 66-60, but a great drive by FM's Marquis Edwards made the score 68-60 and got FM going again. The final score was 80-71.
