98-88 Shootout in Schenectady Won by Raiders

SCHENECTADY – The Jacobson Court scoreboard operator had a busy Tuesday night. The host SCCC Royals put 88 points on the board, but the Raiders topped that by 10. FM won their seventh game of the season and their second in Mountain Valley Conference play. The Raider record is now 7-2 overall and 2-0 conference.

Raheem Small got the scoring started in an impressive way. Raider Kyle Giddings shot and Small was ready for the rebound. Small grabbed the ball and put it through the hoop with a two-handed dunk. 2-0 FM.

Jordan Stewart scored the next five points, three with a nice shot from behind the arc. 7-2 FM.

The Royals were working hard, but Marquis Edwards cut through the defense for a long drive and two more points. Edwards added two more after grabbing a rebound. 11-5. In all, FM's scoring in the first 10 minutes was at a 100-plus rate. With 10:05 on the clock, FM led 26-13.

 

Courtney Darnley added two more with a nice steal and dash for a layup. Edwards hit two more three-pointers, both from the left corner. 41-25 FM. Jonathan Brioso grabbed a rebound and scored, giving FM a 20-point lead at 47-27. The first half ended with FM leading 49-35.

The second stanza saw more even play between the two teams. The Royals actually outscored FM 53-49 in the final 20 minutes, but Head Coach Ed Collar's squad managed the game as they had to.

A total of 15 three-pointers were scored in the second half. The Raiders sank an impressive six treys, but the Royals drained an eye-popping nine from beyond the arc.

 

 

The Raiders will be back on the hardwood for another conference game this coming Saturday, December 6. FM will host the Broncos of SUNY Delhi in a 3:00 p.m. contest in the Raiders Den.
