Broncos Gallop Past Raiders 73-65

JOHNSTOWN – The Raiders had a disappointing Saturday afternoon. FM had won six games in a row and was playing host to SUNY Delhi. The Broncos brought a modest 4-5 record into the game, but the Green & Gold were ready to play all-out.  At the end of 40 minutes, the visitors had earned a 73-65 win.

FM's Tyrone Davis continued to impress with his playmaking and shooting from the floor. He netted 22 points on Saturday.

Davis scored FM's first three baskets. He hit for two and then scored two more on a 70' steal-and-go sprint. Soon Kyle Giddings deflected a Delhi pass to Davis, who netted his third field goal. However, while FM was scoring those six points, Delhi's shooters had sunk two from behind the arc. The score was 6-6.

The first half was fast-paced, but neither team connected for many points. Jonathan Brioso took a pass from Davis and scored with a nice spin move. Those two points brought FM to within two of Delhi's 14. The visitors led by a slim margin for most of the first 20 minutes and led 27-26 at the break.

Delhi opened the second half just as they opened the first 20 minutes: by netting a three-pointer. Tyrone Davis scored five points over a couple of minutes. Giddings took a pass from Davis and got FM within a point, at 32-31. FM stayed close for a while, but Delhi started forcing more FM turnovers.

The visitors were also having a better day at the foul line. FM was just 10 for 18 at the stripe. Delhi had more free throw chances and sank 25 of 33 tries.

Courtney Darnley sank his third three-pointer of the game to make the score 54-46. The Delhi defense was preventing FM from closing the gap, but late in the game the Raiders upped their offense. Darnley hit a jumper with 1:20 remaining. Marquis Edwards stole the ball and fed Ayodele Akinmola who made the score 69-65 with exactly one minute to play.

The Raiders got loud support from their fans but were unable to catch the Broncos. Delhi won the contest 73-65.

FM's record is now 7-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Raiders' next outing will be on Saturday, December 13, when they host Finger Lakes CC.  Tip time is 3:00 p.m. It will be the team's final game before the holiday break.
