Raiders Bow to Cannoneers

The men's basketball team suffered a 79-81 loss to the Jefferson Cannoneers at home on Sunday afternoon. Dante Morgan was leading scorer for FM in the loss with 26 points.

FM started the 1st half fast, leading Jefferson 19-12, but the Cannoneers answered with an 8-0 run to take the lead 19-20 with 10 minutes remaining in the half.  Kerome Grant notched the score at 23, but Jefferson scored 13 unanswered points to go up 23-35. Grant stopped the run with a foul shot, and the Raiders ended the half with a 6-0 run of their own to trail 34-40 at the half.

FM was able to cut the Jefferson lead to just two points to start the 2nd half. Jefferson continued their hot shooting from three point land to set the score 51-57.  Dante Morgan finally put FM in the lead with a three pointer of his own and set the score at 72-70 with three minutes remaining. 

FM was unable to get a defensive stop in the final minutes, but Morgan drilled a deep three and FM was trailing by just two points with 14 seconds to go.  Jefferson missed a foul shot and Joaquin Scullark was able to tip an offensive rebound, and FM was trailing 79-80 with 3.8 seconds left.  The Cannoneers sank one foul shot, and FM had a chance to score with 3.1 seconds to go, but weren't able to convert. FM dropped the close contest 79-81.

Kerome Grant had 15 points and 17 rebounds and Dylan O'Connor followed with 12 points.  Jameir Sudler has the hot shooting hand for Jefferson with 26 points, including six three pointers. 

The Raiders now move to 4-3 on the season and head into the Thanksgiving break.  Their next contest will be Tuesday, November 29th.  They will travel to take on the Royals of Schenectady at 7:00 p.m.
