Raiders Top Clinton, Fall to Herkimer

The men's basketball team traveled to Clinton CC on Sunday and then traveled to Herkimer on Monday for another conference contest.  The Raiders came out with a split as they topped the Clinton Cougars, but fell to the Herkimer Generals.

FM defeated the Cougars 66-56, backed by a strong 35-20 lead after the first half.  The Cougars clawed their way back in the second half, as they outscored the Raiders 36-31.  The Raiders were able to escape with the victory behind 20 points from Ricky SantiagoKerome Grant was the only other Raider in double figures with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

On Monday, the Raiders bounced back for another contest against the Herkimer Generals that was rescheduled. FM jumped out to an 11-10 lead, but that would be their last lead of the game.  Herkimer then went on an 8-0 run until TiJuan Day ended with a three to close the General lead 14-17.  The Generals offense got rolling and jumped out to a 22-34 lead with four minutes left in the half.  Kerome Grant and Day ended the quarter with some offense, but Herkimer led 29-47 at the half.

In the second half, the Raiders came out fired up as they cut the deficit to just ten points with 16 minutes remaining.  Herkimer would then extend their lead again, but FM was able to find an answer.  Ricky Santiago closed the gap to 68-75 with 3:30 remaining, but FM was unable to hit foul shots down the stretch and the General capitalized with a 68-84 victory.

TiJuan Day led the Raiders with 20 points and 8 assists.  Grant had 12 points and Santiago netted 10. 

The Raiders move to 13-8 on the season and have three regular season games remaining.  They will host Hudson Valley on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
