Late Game Heroics Not Enough as Raiders Fall in Semi-Finals

The men's basketball team suffered a tough 84-82 overtime loss to Mohawk Valley in the Region 3 semi-finals.  The loss completed remarkable 20-7 season for Coach Ed Collar's squad.

The Raiders tied the score at 16 midway through the first half.  After a timeout, the Raiders went to a man to man defense and caused four straight turnovers.  With a minute and a half remaining, FM took the lead 29-28.

In the second half, Juwan Malone sank three pointer to start the second half leading 36-30.  Mohawk Valley netted the score at 50 with 8:50 to play.  The Hawks took an eight point lead heading into the final minutes of the contest.  FM answered with a 7-0 run and cut the lead to 65-66 with 2 minutes remaining. Amadou Diakite sank a clutch three pointer to tie the game at 70 with 10 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, MV went on a 7-2 run the FM couldn't recover from and secured the win 84-82.

Diakite led the Raiders in his final contest with 21 points.  Chris Toussaint and Juwan Malone each had 16.  Darren Demmitt followed with 14.

Amadou Diakite was named to the All-Tournament team, as well as, 1st team all-region and all-conference.  Jaleel Jean Jacques was named to 3rd team all-region and all-conference and Juwan Malone was tabbed to the 2rd team all-conference. 

Head Coach Ed Collar was named Region 3 and Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
