Men's Basketball Suffers Tough Loss to Mohawk Valley

The Men's Basketball team lost a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon to the Hawks of Mohawk Valley Community College in the 1st Annual Michael Philo Memorial Classic. The Hawks drained an eventual game winning three with 15 seconds left to secure the 80-76 win over FMCC.

Kennyh Hardeman scored FM's first 8 points of the game to lead the Hawks 10-2. The Raiders held the Hawks to one shot per possession and dominated the boards in the first half. Hardeman had 23 first half points and led his team to a 43-34 lead heading into the locker room.

At the 14-minute mark of the second half, The Hawks went on a 14-2 run to get the offense going and trail by just two points. Matthew Boyle sparked a 6-0 run for the Raiders, and they led 67-60 with 5 minutes remaining.

MVCC would get their first lead of the game with four minutes left. Hardeman and De'Vante Mateo kept the Raider offense alive down the stretch and regained the lead, 76-75 with 30 seconds to play.

On the ensuing play from the Hawks is when Jordan Drain sank a three from the top of the key to lead 78-76 with 15 seconds left. De'Vante Mateo attacked the rim but was called for an offensive charge and the Hawks sank free throws to put the game out of reach.

Hardeman led FM with 28 points and 16 rebounds. Nahjhime Kirton had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Mateo finished with 12 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. 

The Raiders now move to 2-2 on the season. They will be off until November 30th when they travel to play the Twins from Columbia-Greene.
