DeRocker Competes at Region III Championship Tournament

Cameron DeRocker competed in the NJCAA Region III Golf Championship Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Cornell University's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.  Cam finished 40th out of 44 players.  He shot 90 in the first round and a 94 in the second round, falling short of the national qualifying score of 167.

Onondaga Community College won the regional title with a score of 639, Niagara County Community College was second at 658 and Mohawk Valley Community College placed third with a sore of 666.

Cam started off well with a birdie on the first hole, but the brutal weather and playing conditions made for a tough tournament.  "With the conditions less than favorable for golf, I thought Cam played quite a few holes very well, said Head Coach Rich Scott.  The lack of tournament experience played a part in his struggle on a few holes.  Going forward, I believe Cam will be an integral part of the FMCC team for 2018."

"I didn't play my best golf, but it was an awesome experience.  Playing in tournaments is definitely different, but a learning experience.  The course was awesome, but just really wet.  I gained a lot from this season and look forward to next year," said DeRocker.
