Lady Broncos reined in by Lady Raiders

DELHI – FM's women's basketball team defeated Delhi's Lady Broncos 77-59 on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Raiders dominated play in the early going by jumping out to a 20-4 lead. The Blue & White then maintained their lead for the rest of the game.

The Broncos scored the game's first points, but FM freshman Stephanie Rice evened things with a jump shot. Sophomore standout Kassandra Flowers drove the lane for two. Rice sank a three from the left corner. Kendra Jordan tallied.

Sherice Gayle scored from the floor. Her two-pointer came amidst some sharpshooting by Flowers, who quickly sank three shots from behind the arc. When Flowers' third three went through the twine, FM led 20-4.

FM was clearly in charge of the game at this point. Head Coach Kevin Jones worked every Raider into the game. A putback by Taylor Wetsky made the score 27-15. Flowers then stole the ball deep in the defensive end. She sprinted into the attacking zone and drained another three from the left-center of the three-point line. FM led 30-15, and Flowers was en route to scoring five three's in the first half of play.

The teams went into the break with FM leading 42-24.

FM was controlling their lead in the second half. Evanda Redwood sank a pair of threes. The Raiders led by 20, at 68-48, but the Broncos were not giving up. Delhi managed several steals and some nice plays but could not close the scoring gap.
