Raiders Sink Lakers in Region 3 Quarterfinals

SYRACUSE – Fulton-Montgomery CC's Lady Raiders won their Region 3 quarterfinal game with Finger Lakes CC 62-50 on Friday afternoon. FM was seeded #2 and FLCC was seeded #7 in the eight-team regional championship tourney, which is being hosted by the #1 seed, Onondaga CC.

The FM Five played a strong first half and earned a 28-15 lead going into the break. The Lady Lakers regrouped and played a strong second half, but the Raiders had the game under control.

Power forward Monae Abrams led the FM attack with 20 points. Guard Kassandra Flowers had 14 points. Stephanie Rice and Veronica Chea added 8 points each.

In other action, Jefferson CC's Lady Cannoneers defeated Mohawk Valley's Lady Hawks 68-60 in the first game on Friday afternoon, so the Lady Raiders will meet Jefferson in the semifinal round on Saturday.  It is a fitting matchup.  FM defeated Mohawk Valley in both of their confrontations this season.  FM also defeated Jefferson in their one meeting, but it was a very close, exciting, and memorable game.

FM traveled to Watertown to meet Jefferson on November 24. That game saw a 74-74 score on the board at the end of regulation time. It was 82-82 after the first overtime period. FM then took charge in the second OT frame and won the game 95-84. (Click here for the complete November 24 game report, with video.)

Jefferson's squad is tall and talented. The Saturday game between FM and Jefferson looks to be one of the best, closest games of the tournament.

FM is now 20-4 overall and 20-2 in Division III play.
