Redwood Stands Tall in Lady Raiders' Win

JOHNSTOWN – Lady Raider Evanda Redwood lit up the scoreboard with 26 points, including five three-pointers, and FM defeated the Lady Broncos of SUNY Delhi 80-55 on Saturday afternoon. The win was the team's fourth in a row.

FM now sits atop the Mountain Valley Conference standings with a 3-0 conference record (7-3 overall). The Lady Raiders share that top spot with Hudson Valley (3-0) and North Country (2-0).

FM's Redwood led a stunning Lady Raider attack that took control of the game from the opening jump, which was won by Stephanie Rice.

Redwood netted a nice three-pointer from the right side for the game's first score. Then she added a trey from the left side. Silvia Vasquez Rivera drained a long two-pointer. Redwood then sent home another shot from beyond the arc. FM led 11-4 after only 2:26 had been played.

Senior forward Redwood sank another long shot – this one a two-pointer. Rice was fouled and drained both free throws. Redwood went into the right corner and hit yet another three. Abby Boyer added a long two. FM led the Lady Broncos 20-8, and the first half had not yet reached its midpoint.

Head Coach Kevin Jones worked more players into the game. Candice Frost passed to Boyer, who made it 29-14. Co-Captain Jessica Woney was also dishing out assists. She assisted on six scoring plays in the first half. FM led 42-20 at the break.

Woney scored FM's first basket of the second half. Soon the FM Five increased their lead to 30 points, at 59-29. The taller Lady Broncos gave a good effort. Delhi's 5' 9" freshman Adriane Jackson had a grand game, leading all scorers with 27 points, but the Lady Raiders were in control. The final score was 80-55.

Co-Captain Rice played yet another strong game. She was a force at the defensive end, grabbing rebounds and making quick outlet passes. Rice also had a big day in the offensive end. The senior forward had been averaging 18.5 points per game entering the month of December. She tallied 19 against the Lady Broncos.
