Lady Raiders Run Past Clinton

 

JOHNSTOWN – The Lady Raiders and the Lady Cougars of Clinton CC met in the Raiders Den on Thursday evening. FM's women entered the game ranked #4 in the 16-team region, while Clinton was seeking their initial win of the campaign. FM won the game 63-34. 

Head Coach Kevin Jones used all nine available players, and all nine scored. Co-Captain Stephanie Rice led the attack with 15 points, and freshman Abby Boyer added 14. Freshman Mona Wade saw her first collegiate action and scored five points. FM sophomore Taniesha Woods made her first start of the season and scored FM's first three-pointer.

FM jumped out to an impressive lead. Clinton scored the first point with a free throw, but then FM tallied 20 unanswered points. Abby Boyer, Woods, Stephanie Rice, Evanda Redwood, Rebecca Shepard, Mona Wade, and Angel Gittens all scored in that 20-point run. It was the Lady Raiders' most overwhelming start since last February, when they hosted Mohawk Valley and dashed to an amazing 22-2 lead.

Clinton scored two twos and a three, but Rice added two three-pointers for FM to make the score 26-8. Radasha Pope got FM to the 30-mark with a steal-and-go. Torri Richard and Gittens ended the first-half scoring. FM led 36-16 at the break. 

The early going in the second half saw Pope assisting Angel Gittens, making the score 41-16. Pope then scored with another steal-and-go. Boyer put in a rebound of a shot by Rice, and then Boyer took a pass from Rice and scored. 47-19. 

 

 

FM maintained control of the game and closed out the half with a 63-34 win. 

The Lady Raiders are now 10-5 on the season and 5-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference. Clinton is 0-13 (0-6).

FM is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Troy to play Hudson Valley CC (10-4, 4-2). The game tips off at 1:00 p.m.
