Lady Raiders Win Thriller 83-80 against Jefferson

The Lady Raiders hosted the Jefferson Cannoneers on Sunday afternoon. Jefferson entered the contest with a 2-3 record and FM having a 5-1 record.  FM won the thriller 83-80 behind 22 points from My'eesa Grant.

FM jumped out to a 6-0 run to start the game.  Jefferson was able to bounce back with multiple three pointers to take an 8-11 lead.  Julie Hampton drilled a three to end the first quarter and put FM up 20-18. 

Jefferson dominated the first five minutes of the 2nd quarter as they went on a 10-0 run to take the lead 27-20.  Kaina Martinez got the FM offense going with a runner in the lane to set the score at 24-27, Jefferson.  Hampton made another clutch three to put FM up 31-30 with three minutes remaining in the half.  Rylie Smith extended the Raider run with five straight points, but the Cannoneers answered with back to back threes.  Jefferson shot 60% from three point line in the half, but Karizma Fleurimond extended the FM lead heading in to the half 40-38. 

My'eesa Grant and Rylie Smith dominated on the offensive end in the 3rd quarter as they combined for 16 points.  My'eesa put FM up 50-45, but Jefferson just wouldn't go away as they continued their hot shooting in the second half.  The Lady Raiders maintained the lead and ended the quarter leading 61-58.

Amirah Greene and Grant dominated the paint in the 4th quarter, but the FM defense struggled to keep Jefferson off the scoreboard as they traded baskets.  The Cannoneers took the lead with three minutes left in the game 75-73. Greene sank a three from the corner with a minute remaining to put FM up 78-77.  FM was able to get a final stop and Smith sank two foul shots to seal the Raider win 83-80.

My'eesa Grant led with 22 points and 8 rebounds and Amirah Greene followed with 21 points and 12 rebounds.  Rylie Smith also scored in double figures with 17 points.  Moet Jenkins dished out eight assists.

FM will host Sullivan CC on Tuesday in the Raiders Den.  Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
