Women's Basketball Improves to 14-4 on the Season with Victory over Herkimer

The Lady Raiders hosted the Herkimer Lady Generals in a Conference contest on Wednesday night.  FM got off to a slow start in the first quarter, but would dominate the rest of the contest and improve to 14-4 on the season, with an 87-63 victory.

My'eesa Grant led the Raiders with 19 points and 20 rebounds.  Moet Jenkins sank 18 points and had 6 steals.  Amirah Greene and Rylie Smith both scored in double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.

The first quarter started off slow for the Lady Raiders as the Generals jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  FM did not score until four minutes into the game when My'eesa Grant ended the scoring drought. The Generals kept attacking the FM defense and continued to trade baskets.  Amirah Greene put FM up 10-9 with two minutes remaining in the quarter.  Miranda Nethaway who scored 8 points on the night grabbed an offensive rebound and converted on a three point play, and Julie Hampton ended the quarter with a three to put FM ahead 16-11.

Herkimer opened up the second quarter on a 5-0 run and tied the game at 16.  Hampton stayed hot from three point land and extended the lead to 19-16.  FM went on a 9-0 run midway through the quarter to set the score at 32-22, with two minutes remaining.  The Generals answered with a 7-0 run and cut the lead to 32-29.  Hampton closed out the quarter as she drilled a buzzer beater three to end the half and FM headed to the locker room with a 40-31 lead.

Head Coach Kevin Jones got his team fired up in the locker room.  The Lady Raiders dominated the opening minutes of the quarter and extended their lead 53-34 with 4 minutes remaining in the quarter. My'eesa Grant and Moet Jenkins led the offense and closed out the quarter leading by 21 points.  Kaina Martinez sparked the Raiders in the final quarter scoring seven points.  FM secured the conference victory 87-63.

Herkimer saw three players score in double figures.  Jazmin Diggs led the way with 21 points.  Diamonique Franklin scored 13 points and Sierra Henry sank 11.

FM will travel to Mohawk Valley CC on Saturday for an always tough Conference game against the Lady Hawks.  Game time is set for 1:00p.m.
