Lady Raiders Bow to Mohawk Valley

The women's basketball team has won their last 9 out of 10 games, with the only loss coming from Mohawk Valley.  The Lady Raiders would have their chance at the Hawks once again as they hosted  them in the Raiders den on Thursday night.  FM had the lead for most of the game, but the Hawks were able to trip up the Raiders again as they beat the home team 62-59

FM jumped out to a 12-10 lead in the 1st quarter.  Julie Hampton opened up the FM offense in the 2nd quarter with a three from the top of the arc to extend the lead 15-12.  Shantel Acevedo gave FM their biggest lead of the half 21-15.  The Mohawk Valley offense got rolling in the final 5 minutes of the half as they outscored FM 11-4 to close out the half tied 25-25.

FM outscored Mohawk Valley 18-14 in the 3rd quarter and extended their lead 43-39 heading into the final quarter.  In the 4th quarter MV got their offense rolling and took the lead 48-49 with 4 minutes to play.  Moet Jenkins was able to cut the deficit to four points, 56-60 and then converted on a three point play to set the score at 59-62.  The Lady Raiders struggled at the line and ran out of time to suffer only their second loss in eleven games.

FM has four players in double figures as Moet Jenkins led with 13.  My'eesa Grant had 12 points and 16 rebounds, and Rylie Smith and Kaina Martinez had 10 and 11 points.

FM will honor their seniors on Saturday in what will be their last regular season contest.  The Lady Raiders will face Columbia-Greene at 1:00 p.m.
