The women's basketball team hosted the Corning Red Barons and the Adirondack Timberwolves in a weekend series. FM dropped the first contest on Saturday to Corning, 59-74. On Sunday, the Lady Raiders bounced back to beat Adirondack, 60-55.
Against Corning, FM jumped out to an 18-13 first quarter lead. In the second quarter, Shelby Dopp and Julie Hampton teamed up to extend the FM lead 25-15. The Red Barons went on a 9-0 run to cut the FM lead to just 27-24. FM struggled to close out the quarter on the defensive end and Corning took a 35-32 lead heading into halftime.
The Lady Raiders were unable to regain the lead in the 3rd quarter as Corning outscored FM 20-12 to extend their lead 55-44 heading into the final quarter. FM bounced back in the final quarter outscoring the Barons 21-19, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fell 59-74.
Diasia Deboue led FM with 21 points and Julie Hampton followed with 18. Kiara Buxton led Corning with 27 points.
On Sunday, the Lady Raiders bounced back for a victory against the Timberwolves. FM led 33-23 at the half, but Adirondack started the 3rd quarter on a 9-0 and trailed 33-32. Diasia Deboue responded and scored 8 straight points to pull ahead 41-32.
In the 4th quarter, Adirondack shot well from behind the arc and at the free throw line and tied the game at 54 with three minutes remaining. McKiea Weekes converted on a crucial and one play with less than a minute left to seal the 60-55 victory.
Deboue led FM again with 27 points, Weekes followed with 15 and Hampton finished with 15. The Raiders next contest will be Wednesday, January 31st at Schenectady CC.
