The women's basketball team defeated the Jefferson Cannoneers in their home opener Sunday afternoon. Niaimani Marshall led the Lady Raiders with 29 points in route to an 81-79 victory.
FM and Jefferson kept in close for most of the contest. The Raiders led 49-45 at the half, but both teams got off to a slow start in the third quarter.
Jefferson was able to tie the score at 70 with six minutes remaining in the contest. Niasia Phillips converted on a three point play to push the lead to 73-70. Destiny Prather scored with 27 seconds left, to set the score at 80-77 and FM was able to hang on for the 81-79 victory.
Niaimani Marshall finished 12-23 from the field, including 4-8 from three point land. Phillips finished with 20 points and DiAsia DeBoue tallied 11 points and 7 assists.
FM's next contest will be Tuesday, September 27th on the road against Schenectady Community College.
