Johnstown, NY – The Lady Huskies of the Word of Life Institute visited the Raiders Den on Monday night. The Lady Raiders shut out the visitors, three sets to none.

The match belonged to FM from the opening serve.  A Lady Husky served the ball, but Whitney Ostrander quickly killed it to win the first point of the evening. That was the opening volley by the Raiders. By evening's end, FM had scored 75 points while the Huskies scored 30.

The Raiders simply took care of business with steady play, alert digs, smart setting, and impressive blocks and kills. They also read the situations well, as when setter Shelbey Lyons opted not to set but to place a shot deep in the Huskies' court for a 14-6 lead in the first set.  Likewise, an alert tap by Liz Hayward made it 17-8. Sarah Wyzomirski's block put FM ahead 20-10. The Raiders finished the set 25-15.

FM jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second set, and the Raiders never looked back. Liz Hayward's kills won FM's 13th and 15th points, the latter being an impressive cross-court shot. Word of Life had made a bit of a comeback in the first set but could not repeat that result in the second set. FM won 25-5.

Again in the final set, FM grabbed an early 7-1 lead. Impressive kills by Captain Wyzomirski gained FM's 14th, 15th, and 18th points. Freshman Ostrander also made three impressive kills late in the game, and her deft tap made the score 20-10 FM. The Raiders closed out the set 25-10.

Head Coach Rachael Salvione's squad is now 7-6 on the season. They will host the Twins of Columbia-Greene CC on Wednesday. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
