HUDSON – The Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) all-conference volleyball team was announced on Thursday afternoon. Two Lady Raiders – middle hitter Whitney Ostrander and setter Zara Hyde – were named to that elite group.

Ostrander has been a major offensive force for FM. She and her attacking partner Katlyn Pierce have combined for an average of seven kills per set. Ostrander is second among all Region 3 players in hitting percentage, with a mark of 4.71. She also ranks fourth in Region 3 in blocks per set at 1.41. Ostrander reads the defense very well and can score with her left hand as well as with her right.

Hyde plays the setter position and does it very well. She has been consistently on target with her sets, and she ranks third in Region 3 with 8.24 assists per set. Hyde has a knack for setting the ball for whoever among her teammates is in the best positon for an attacking shot. She also reads the defense well and does not hesitate to make an unexpected attack shot herself.

Ostrander, Hyde, and their teammates will travel to Queensbury tomorrow to play in the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament. FM's first match will be against SUNY Delhi, with the first serve set for 12:45 p.m.
