Volleyball Team Honored by Board of Trustees

JOHNSTOWN – The FM volleyball team received additional postseason recognition on Thursday and Saturday. The FMCC Board of Trustees held their November meeting on Thursday. They began the meeting with a proclamation that honored the team for their outstanding season and postseason success. On Saturday the team was introduced at halftime of the Lady Raiders' basketball game.

The team posted a sterling 24-4 record. They won the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament. They went to the Region 3 tournament and had the best record among the eight teams in pool play and went on to be tournament semifinalists.

Director of Athletics Kevin Jones gave introductory remarks, summarized the team's accomplishments, and called the team possibly the best ever at FM, and certainly the best in memory. Jones also showed a three-minute highlight video of the team's performance at the regionals. (Click here to see the video or go to the volleyball Multimedia page to access it.)

FMCC President Dustin Swanger praised the team for their achievement and for the way they represented FMCC.

Head Coach Salvione summarized the coaches' thoughts: "It was such an honor to the volleyball team and the coaches to receive the proclamation from the Board of Trustees for the success the team had in the 2014 season. The team and coaches are very proud of the accomplishments this year, and Thursday night was a great ending to our season. We were very appreciative of the recognition. The coaches couldn't have asked for a better group of student-athletes to work with. The biggest highlight of our season's accomplishments was the fact that we have local players who beat some of the best teams in the region. The other highlight was beating (reigning champion) Adirondack in the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament as well as in regionals."
