Raiders beat Cayuga, but bow to Jefferson and Onondaga

The FM Lady Raiders were anxious to finally play volleyball in the Raiders Den.  FM hosted POD play with visiting teams from Cayuga, Herkimer, Onondaga, Jefferson, and Mohawk Valley.  All matches were best 3 out of 5.  The Raiders played Cayuga, Jefferson and Onondaga on the day and went 2-1.

FM-3 vs. Cayuga-0: 25-14, 25-19, & 25-19

The Raiders got off to a quick start against the Spartans.  In the first set, Brittany Orminksi gave FM back to back points to go up 10-4.  The Raiders kept the momentum going with great defensive action and solid play from Jenna Putnam who had a kill to make the score 23-11.  Carly Howe ended the first set of action with a point of her own and the Raiders won the match 25-14.

In the second set, Cayuga played well and was point for point for most of the set until the Raiders reeled together four straight points to make the score 22-17.  Cayuga was able to manage to more points before the raiders ended it 25-19 with a Miranda Eagan kill.

FM continued its dominance in the third set to win the match 3-0.  The Raiders got out front and never trailed.  Jordyn Hale put together solid digs to keep the rally going for FM.  Coach Salvione's
squad went on to win 25-19.

FM-0 vs. Jefferson-3: 18-25, 11-25, & 19-25

This match saw a different side of the FM Raiders, as they played from behind in all three sets.  Jefferson used effective blocking to take an early lead in the first set, but the Raiders stayed close and kept attacking.  The score was 23-18 with some FM momentum, but the Cannoneers reeled off three straight points for the 18-25 win.

The second set was all Jefferson as they scored nine straight points to make it 10-23.  The Raiders scored one more point in the set and bowed to Jefferson 11-25.

In the last set both teams battled and FM came out with some confidence and attacked.  Emily Orminski scored the Raiders first point to make the score 3-1 Jefferson.  Both teams went back and forth but it seemed like every hit from Jefferson was hitting every open space and FM just couldn't capitalize. The Lady Raiders scored two straight point to still trail 22-19, but after an FM timeout Jefferson was able to score three straight points to take the final set 25-19 and to with the match 3-0.
