Lady Raiders Finish Second at Jefferson Invitational Tournament

FM competed in the Jefferson Invitational Tournament on Saturday and went undefeated in pool play.

The Lady Raiders defeated Herkimer 2-0, with scores of 25-10, and 25-5.  FM then defeated Cayuga 2-0, with scores of 25-9, and 25-18.  They then went on to defeat Tompkins Cortland 2-0, with scores of 25-3 and 25-13.

FM went on to the semi-finals and defeated Corning again 2-0, with scores of 25-20, and 25-18.  FM dropped the Championship game to Jefferson in a very close match with scores of 25-23 and 25-23.

Emily Orminski had 25 kills, 23 assists, 12 aces, 10 digs and 3 blocks. Gabrielle Smith had 56 assists, 6 aces, 2 kills, 1 block, and 7 digs.  Megan Ryder had 8 kills, 6 aces, 16 digs and 6 blocks.  Bri Eagan had 17 kills, 8 blocks, 5 aces, and 4 digs.  Miranda Nethaway had 14 kills, and 13 blocks, Gianna Cruz had 11 kills and Ruverlyn Marrero had 5 aces and 6 digs.

Head Coach Rahael Savione was impressed with her team start to the season.  "We are off to a great start this season; I am very pleased with their level of play this past weekend.  It's nice to see the hard work from three weeks of pre-season pay off. It was a tough loss against Jefferson, but we will focus on our areas that need improvement and get ready for our first conference match on Wednesday," said Salvione. 

FM hosts Adirondack in their first home match on Wednesday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m.
