Volleyball Goes Undefeated in POD Play

The Lady Raiders hosted their home POD in the Raiders Den on Saturday, and they came out ready to play.  FM dominated on the hardwood not losing a single set on the day and beat Erie, Niagara, and Jamestown all by scores of 3-0.

Match One vs. Erie-FM wins 3-0; 25-16, 25-7, and 25-16

In the first set, FM took an early 4-1 lead.  Gabrielle Smith scored back to back aces to put her team up 15-9.  Erie kept creeping back, scoring four straight points to set the score at 15-3. FM answered with four unanswered points of their own to go up 20-4.  Gianna Cruz and the rest of the squad closed out the set 25-16.  

The Lady Raiders dominated the second set as they jumped out to an early 8-2 lead.  Bri Eagan and Megan Ryder pushed the score to 19-6.  Erie was able to score just one more point and FM pulled out the win 25-7.  

In the final set, FM faced some adversity as Erie scored six straight points to lead the Raiders 12-5. After a timeout Jenna Putnam and Miranda Nethaway got FM rolling as they scored eight straight points to take the lead 14-12. Erie was able to tie the score at 16, but that was all that FM would allow.  Coach Salvione's squad closed out the match scoring nine unanswered points, behind Ruverlyn Marrero's excellent serving to win the match 25-16.  

Emily Orminski and Miranda Nethaway led the way with 6 kills each.  Gabrielle Smith had 13 assists and Nethway had six blocks.  Brittany Orminski had eight digs and Smith, E. Orminski and Marrero each had two aces apiece.  

Match Two vs. North Country FM wins 3-0; 25-16, 25-12, and 25-18

FM continued its tough play as it dominated North Country in three sets.  Emily Orminski and Bri Eagan led the Raiders with 8 kills each.  Gabrielle Smith had twenty assists to her teammates and three aces for the match.  

Match Three vs. Jamestown FM wins 3-0; 25-15, 25-20, and 25-20

FM had 34 kills in the match and Eagan led the way with nine of those kills.  Emily Orminksi and Gabrielle Smith combined for 25 assists in the match and set thier teammates up nicely for multiple points.  Miranda Nethaway had 6 blocks for FM.  

Coach Salvione's squad moves to 8-1 on the season and looks to continue their winning ways. The Lady Raiders have been voted 4th in the Division III Coaches' Poll behind Genesee, Jamestown and Monroe. Their next contest is Wednesday, September 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Raiders Den.  They host Hudson Valley Community College.
