Lady Raiders Extend Winning Streak to Five Games

The Women's Volleyball team hosted Region III POD play on Saturday.  FM hosted Herkimer, Mohawk Valley, Monroe, Genesee and Finger Lakes.  The Raiders matched up against Monroe, Finger Lakes and Genesee and went 3-0 on the day.

Match One: FM vs. Monroe

FM had suffered an early season loss to Monroe in the Jefferson Invitational and they were ready to bounce back.  The Lady Raiders came out on fire to get the day started against the Tribunes and won 3-0; 25-12, 25-16 and 25-16.  FM dominated the first set as Megan Ryder put her team up 13-5 and Monroe was never able to recover.  The Raiders fell behind early in the 2nd set, but played error free ball to come out on top 25-16.

In the final set, FM went up 12-5 off of a Bri Eagan block and Ryder ace.  Monroe crept back to close the gap 14-20, but Raina Danylak came up strong at the net defensively and secured a 25-16 FM win.  Bri Egan had 13 kills and digs.  Megan Ryder finished the match with 12 kills and 15 digs.  Gabrielle Smith had 31 assists and 3 kills.  Raina Danylak had 5 kills and 2 blocks, Aspen Darling recorded 5 kills.  Bri Port led with 4 blocks and Julie Hampton finished with 7 digs. 

Match Two: FM vs. Finger Lakes

The Lady Raiders took the win in their second match 3-0; 25-13, 25-16, and 25-19.  Gabby Smith had 29 assists, 2 kills and 2 aces.  Megan Ryder finished with 6 kills, 2 aces and 13 digs.  Bri Eagan led with 14 kills, 6 aces, and 8 digs.  Brianna Port had 6 kills and 8 digs.  Danylak had 4 kills and a block.  Aspen Darling had 6 kills and 4 blocks and Hampton rounded out the stats with 16 digs.

Match Three: FM vs. Genesee

FM finished their final match of the day winning 3-1; 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, & 25-21.  The Raiders dominated the first two sets, but fell short on the third set.  The Lady Raiders fell behind 17-22, but clawed their way back 23-24.  Genesee was able to sneak out the final point for the win.  In the 4th set FM fell behind early 12-10.  Aspen Darling put her team up 21-18 with a crucial push and FM sealed the deal down the stretch with a 25-21 victory.

Bri Eagan led with 21 kills and 17 digs.  Ryder followed with 12 kills and 16 digs. Gabby Smith had 44 assists and 3 blocks.  Danylak finished with a team high 9 blocks.

The Lady Raiders move to 15-5 on the season and are currently 4th in Region 3 Standings. The Lady Raiders next contest will be on the road when they head to North Country CC on Wednesday, October 4th.
