Volleyball Completes Remarkable 2023 Season

After a historic undefeated regular season, The FMCC Women's Volleyball team traveled to the Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to compete for the NJCAA DIII National Championship.

In their first match of the tournament, the #5 Lady Raiders would take on #12 Alexandria Tech out of Minnesota.

FMCC came out swinging and attacked the net. Grace O'Brien led the attack with 7 kills. Jayden DeVellis led with 21 digs and Lindsey Zawisa added 15 digs. Amber Cole collected 19 assists.

FMCC vs. Northampton, 3-1 Win; 25-17, 17-25, 25-19.

The Lady Raiders were able to bounce back to play later in the day against Northampton in the consolation bracket. They were able to defeat Northampton, 3-1.

O'Brien led with 11 kills and Alaina Diffee with 9. Defensively, FMCC had a strong match. DeVellis tallied 24 digs, Teianna Vetrano-Frasier with and Zawisa each had 17 digs. Amber Cole was stellar at the serving line, recording 6 aces.

The win would move them forward in the consolation bracket and they would play Harper College on Friday.

FMCC vs. Harper College, 3-0 Loss; 8-25, 16-25, 16-25

The final match proved to be a tough test for the Lady Raiders. Jenna Greenwald chipped in with 3 blocks and 3 kills. Cole added 12 assists and the team accounted for 21 kills and 28 digs.

FMCC finishes their remarkable season with a 24-2 record, Mountain Valley Conference Champions, Region 3 Champions and several conference and region honors.

"The team is very proud of having made the National Tournament. It was a tremendous experience for the players and coaching staff and one that they will always remember. We played at the cedar rapids convention complex which was an amazing location to play the tournament at. We played some extremely competitive teams this week which will help us as we prepare for next season with the goal of reaching the national tournament again. The team would like to thank the college, our families, and fans for all the support throughout the season. A special thank you to Kevin Jones, and Meghan for the additional support this season," said Head Coach Tina Olyer.
