Sophomore Kira Williams had a standout season for the Lady Raiders Cross Country Program.  She was recognized at the Board of Trustees Meeting at FMCC on Thursday evening.

Williams was honored for being named Mountain Valley Conference Champion and the NJCAA Region 3 Champion.  She finished the season undefeated and took home the Region 3 crown on October 31st, 2020.  In the final race of the season, hosted by Finger Lakes Community College, she finished 1st with a time of 24:31 in the 5K race.

"I feel really lucky to have had a Cross Country season this year with everything that is happening with COVID.  Although things this year were different from last season, with the assistance and support of Coach Bowles, we were still able to have an amazing team and go out and compete," said Williams.

Most recently, Kira was named the female North East Cross Country runner of the year.  Throughout the season she was named NJCAA National Athlete of the Week and is also a two-time All-Region team recipient. Head Coach Jim Bowles was also selected NJCAA Region 3 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

"Going undefeated for an entire season is extremely rare at the college level. The fact that she accomplished this in total individually paced runs further demonstrates her resolve to be the best that she can become. Kira is a hard working student-athlete who was the team leader at Fulton- Montgomery for the entire cross-country squad. She will be impossible to replace," said Coach Bowles.

Kira will be graduating in December with her Associate Degree from FMCC.  She boasts a 3.8 GPA and is also the President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.  Kira has plans to move south and hopes to attend North Carolina State University, where she will enroll in their Animal Science program and ultimately their Veterinary school.
