Baseball Sophomore Spotlight

2020 FMCC Baseball Sophomores.
2020 FMCC Baseball Sophomores.

The Raider Baseball team was preparing to head to Myrtle Beach for their spring training trip, when there season was unfortunately canceled.  We would like to recognize the seven baseball sophomores below that were unable to play their final season for the Raiders.

Alex VanDeusen

Alex would have started and played a lot of shortstop, some 2nd base, and would have seen some significant time on the mound. He worked hard over the summer to gain strength, which in turn improved his game. Alex had been one of the leaders on and off the field and is going to Cortland in the fall.

Billy Newcomb

Billy was one of FM's best all around players.  He would have hit in the middle of the order offensively and hits to all fields really well with gap to gap power.  He worked really hard over the summer and transformed his body, losing weight and gaining strength. Newcomb would have started in the outfield, and worked really hard on the mound and would have seen significant time on the mound. He throws hard from the left side and has a big curveball. He will be going to UAlbany in the fall.

Blake Carey

Blake is a great team player, does anything to help the team, and that is why he earned coaches award last year. He would have been the backup catcher, had arm improvement from last year and was making strides offensively. Blake plans to transfer to Cortland.

Brendan McGillin

Brendan would have been the #1 pitcher, he has good command of all his pitches.  McGillin would have also been a starter in the infield mostly at second base, and some short stop. Offensively he would have hit either 1 or 2 in our lineup and is unsure about his transfer plans in the fall.

Trevor Porter

Trevor was a transfer from Herkimer and is a hard throwing pitcher.  Offensively, he would have hit 3 or 4 for The Raiders and had a very good fall and had a good approach at the plate. Porter is still uncommitted for the fall but is leaning towards Oneonta.

Anthony Combs

Transfered from Adirondack CC. He would have started in the infield, playing some 2B and some 3B. Anthony had good approach at the plate, hit to all fields and would have hit at the top of our order. He was our highest average hitter in the fall and is unsure about his fall plans.

Zach Pedersen

Zach joined the team this year in January and would have played some time at 1B and would have pitched.  He threw a lot of strikes and gobbled up innings.
