Raiders Give Solid Effort in Home Opener

The FM Raiders took the field for their first game of the season in what was a hot and hazy afternoon.  The Raiders were outscored by the Adirondack Timberwolves 4-1.

The Timberwolves got off to a quick start with three goals by Sean Maruscsak, which were assisted by a couple defensive mistakes by the Raiders.  FM's play improved from there and the Raiders really regrouped and battled the rest of the game.

In the second half, the Raiders were putting the pressure on the Timberwolves and attacking the net.  FM's Greyson Mullins was on his way to scoring when he was tripped up in the box.  Coach Leggiero called on defenseman, Jared Weissman to take the shot for the Raiders.  Weissman kept the shot low left and it beat the goalkeeper for FM's first goal of the season.  (See photo below.)

The home team continued to battle the rest of the half and gave up a last-second goal with 17 seconds remaining in the contest.

Coach Leggiero was pleased with the way his team battled in the second half and stated; "We are moving in the right direction and working at it daily.  It will be a process that isn't going to change overnight, but everyone has bought into the system and we will get to where we need to be."

FM's next game will be Saturday when the Raiders will host Onondaga at 3:15 p.m. The Lazers bring a 1-1 record into the contest. The Raiders hope to improve on their 0-1 record.
