Soccer Overcomes Four Goal Deficit to Force Double OT Tie

Soccer Overcomes Four Goal Deficit to Force Double OT Tie

The men's soccer team hosted the TC3 Panthers in a Region III matchup on Wednesday.  FM was trailing 5-1 in the second half when they pulled off a remarkable come back that finished in a 5-5 tie.

The Panthers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first half and were dominating the FM defense. Greyson Mullins put FM on the board with a goal of his own to end the first half trailing 3-1.

In the second half, the Raiders came out flat and TC3 took advantage.  Within 15 seconds of the half the Panthers scored a goal and less than ten minutes later they scored another.  FM was trailing 5-1 with 38 minutes remaining in the contest.

FM was just getting warmed up.  The next 30 minutes of play was all FM as Justin Marek crushed a goal through the upper right corner off of a direct kick.  A minute after, Aiden VanLoan then took over the offense for FM as he weaved his way through the FM defense to score a goal of his own and set the score at 5-3.  Hugues Kouassi hit the back of the net with a goal of his own off of a beautiful assist from Marick.  FM now only trailed 5-4 and there was still 32 minutes remaining.

VanLoan tied up the score at 5-5 with a gorgeous corner shot from about 30 yards out.  The FM defense held strong and did not give up another goal for the remainder of regulation and would  force its second overtime game.

In both overtime sessions, each team had plenty of chances to score, but just couldn't cash in the winning goal and the game ended in a 5-5 tie.  FM's comeback was powerful and says a lot about the squad as they look to surprise teams the rest of the season.

FM is back in action on Saturday at home when they host Niagara CC at 1:00 p.m.
