Soccer Pulls Off Win in Double OT

The Raiders soccer team took the long trip to North Country Communty College on Wednesday.  The Saints headed into the match with a 1-10 record and FM is holding tough at 5-5-1.  FM didn't play their best soccer, but were able to pull off a 3-2 win in double OT.

FM got off to a very slow start and North Country took advantage of an FM defensive error and scored first to go up 1-0.  Austin Heroth scored on a Justin Marek corner kick and ended the first half with a 1-1 tie.

The Raiders came out slow again in the second half, however Hugues Kouassi scored off a Justin Marek through ball.  FM was on top 2-1.   With 10 minutes remaing in the match the Saints scored another goal to set the score at two and force overtime.  Kouassi scored the game winner in the 2nd overtime, off a Justin Marek corner kick.

Coach Leggiero and his squad knew they didn't play as well as they should have, but were able to escape with a win.  "Even though we won, I am not satisfied with the performance,"said Leggiero.  "We know that berth into the regional tournament is in front of us, the win today helps," stated Heroth.  Justin Estremera was glad to escape the road trip with a win; "Today we found a way to win, but we have to go back to working hard."

FM now moves to 6-5-1 on the season and gets a short break to rest up for the final two games of the season.  The Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday, October 12th when they travel to Glens Falls to take on Adirondack.  Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
