Men's Soccer Hangs Tough in Regional Semi-Final

The #8 seeded FM Raiders finally got their shot in the NJCAA Region III semi-final game, as they traveled to Herkimer to take on the #1 seeded Generals.  FM thought their season was over last week, but they came out fired up and ready to take on the top team in the region.

FM was able to score first as Jack Albertin set up Justin Estremera with a nice shot that found the back of the net.  The Raiders were leading the Generals 1-0 with about 40 minutes left to play in the first half.  Herkimer controlled the ball for the majority of the game and FM's Joseph Perez was stellar in goal with 12 saves.

Herkimer answered with two goals in the first half coming from Herkimer's speedy forward Dajhal Kelly.  FM headed into the locker room keeping it close and down just one goal.  The score stayed locked at 2-1 for the majority of the second half and FM found themselves on the defensive side of things for the remainder of the game.  With about twelve to go Herkimer sealed the deal with another goal to take the win 3-1.

The Raiders finish their season with their heads held high.  The entire roster is responsible for moving the soccer program to a regional contender.  "I am proud of every single guy on my team, we are one of the top eight teams in the region, and that says a lot.  They have improved the program leaps and bounds and we look forward to the future of FM soccer," said Leggiero.
