Soccer Comes Up Short In Season Opener

The men's soccer team opened their 2024 season on Wednesday afternoon. They hosted Kingsborough Community College in the home opener. The Raiders scored quick, but came up short in a 2-1 loss to the Wave.

In the 7th minute, Bradley Warren sent a through ball to Sidney Ngala Ligunya who had a one-on-one shot on goal but was unable to find the back of the net. In the 20th minute, Warren dribbled into traffic and passed to Carlos Pazos who converted on a shot from about 25 yards out for the first goal of the season.

Late in the first half, Kingsborough got behind the FM defense to net the game 1-1 at the half.

In the second half, The Wave crossed the ball in front of the net that got through the FM defense for a score with 15 minutes remaining. The Raiders has several attempts but were unable to convert and suffered the 2-1 loss.

Sidney Ngala Ligunya led with four shots on goal and Erik Gutowski earned three saves in the net.

FMCC will continue their home stand on Sunday, September 8th. They will host Genesee Community College at 1:00 p.m.
