
The FMCC Men's Soccer team hosted the #8 Nationally Ranked Genesee Cougars on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders stunned the Cougars, defeating them 2-0 in the Region 3 match-up. The victory marked the first career win for Head Coach Joe Gander.
Genesee dominated the possession in the first half, but the Raiders were able to head into the half with a 0-0 tie.
Early into the second half, The Raiders who were playing down a man, but found some offensive spark. In the 70th minute of the game, Juri Barnstorf-Brandes was tripped inside the penalty box. He was able to convert on the shot to left lower post.
Three minutes later, Bradley Warren crossed the ball in the box who found the foot of Barnstorf-Brandes who found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Raiders were able to hold off the Cougars for their first Region 3 victory of the season. Carlos Jose Romero Astacio posted a shut out in goal with 8 saves.
"I am really proud of how hard the boys worked and executed the plan. Even when numbers were against us, they really showed what this team is capable of," said Coach Gander.
FMCC will be back in action on Wednesday, September 11th when they host SUNY Adirondack at 4pm.
