FM Softball Swept by Nation’s #3 Team

CORNING – The Lady Raiders traveled to New York's Southern Tier to meet the #3-ranked team in the nation for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Corning Nine showed why they have such a lofty ranking. The home team defeated FM 11-1 and 22-0.

The Lady Red Barons have been one of the premier teams in Region 3 in recent years, and this year they are among the nation's elite. The NJCAA weekly coaches' poll has Corning ranked #3 in the nation. The top-ranked team is Brookdale CC (New Jersey). The Jersey Blues are followed by two area teams: Herkimer and Corning. The #4 team is Rock Valley College (Illinois).

Corning now has the sterling season record of 26-2 (23-0 in Region 3). They have won all of their last 25 games.

FM was only able to hit safely four times against Corning pitching. One of those FM hits was a dandy – a pinch-hit triple by Erica Redwood.

The Lady Raiders' next outing is scheduled for Wednesday. They are to play the Twins of Columbia-Greene CC on the CGCC campus. However, the weather forecast is not favorable. Any schedule change will be posted on this website as soon as it is known.
