Lady Raiders Win Game One Thriller

Lady Raiders Win Game One Thriller

BINGHAMTON – The Lady Raiders traveled to SUNY Broome on Saturday for a season-ending doubleheader between non-conference rivals. FM won a dramatic, extra-inning game in the opener, and Broome rolled to a big win in the second game.

Game One

FM led 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning, but there was plenty of drama to follow. The Lady Hornets fought back, plating a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. FM still led 6-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Broome scored three times to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

The Lady Raiders scored a run in the top of the eighth, but Broome matched it with a run in their half of the inning.

FM went in front again in the ninth. Alyssa Palmateer was in the circle for the Raiders, and she also contributed mightily with her bat. Abby Boyer was on second base. Palmateer stroked a single into left field that allowed Boyer to score. Palmateer and the FM defense kept Broome from scoring in the bottom of the ninth, and the Lady Raiders won 8-7.

Freshman catcher Ashley Przybylowicz was three-for-four at the plate and drove in two runs. Stephanie Rice was three-for-five, including a triple. Palmateer and Lauren Balfe both hit doubles.
