Softball Falls to Tompkins Cortland in Season Opener

The women's softball team finally got their 2018 season underway on Wednesday.  The Lady Raiders hosted the Tompkins Cortland Panthers in a double header.  FM fell in game one, 1-0 and dropped game two, 13-5.

Sam De La Fleur went the distance on the mound for FM in game one and had a strong showing.  She gave up just two hits, three walks and struck out two in the loss. 

Tompkins Cortland scored its only run of the game in the 3rd inning, but the FM offense couldn't get a run across. Emily Washburn led going 2-3 with two doubles and Raina Danylak had a single. 

In game two, FM jumped out on top with a 2-0 lead.  Julie Hampton singled and Gabrielle Smith bunted her to second.  Washburn scored Hampton on a single.  Danylak Scored Washburn on a single.  The Panthers answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own. 

The Raiders clawed their way back to tie it 5-5 in the 4th inning.  Morgan StPierre led off with a single and Marque Pacillo reached on an error.  Washburn hit another double to score Hampton and Smith. 

Tompkins Cortland's bats came alive in the bottom of the 4th and 5th innings and the Raiders suffered a 13-5 loss.  Washburn and StPierre both went 2-3 at the plate to lead FM.  Hampton and Danylak each had singles.

FM's next contest will be Saturday, April 21st when they host Finger Lakes CC.
