Lady Raiders Earn First Win of Season

The women's softball team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday against Finger Lakes Community College.  FM beat the Lakers 16-14 in game one of the double header.  The Lady Raiders dropped game two by a score of 16-7.

The Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but FM answered with a big 2nd inning.  Gabrielle Smith singled to score two runs.  Julie Hampton and Emily Washburn both walked to score two more runs.  Sam De La Fleur had a single to score two more runs and FM took the lead 6-3. 

The Raiders scored 8 more runs in the 3rd inning to put the game out of reach.  The Lakers had a big 5th inning, but it wasn't enough.

De La Fleur threw a complete game for the Raiders in the circle.  She also led the FM offense with 3 hits and 4 RBI's.  Gabrielle Smith went 2-5 at the plate with 2 RBI's.  Washburn had a single and 3 RBI's. 

In the second game of the double header the Lakers scored 10 runs in the first inning and FM could not recover.  Smith, Hampton, Washburn, and Marque Pacillo all had singles for FM.

On Sunday, FM traveled to Corning to take on the always tough Red Barons.  The Raiders dropped both games; 17-0 and 15-5.  Emily Washburn and Taylor Hill each had a hit in game one. 

In the second game, the FM offense came alive, but it came up short.  Smith, Washburn, Hampton, and Pacillo each had singles. 

Softball's next contest will be on Wednesday, April 25th when they travel to play the Herkimer Generals.
