Women's Soccer Falls Short in Season Opener

After a five-year hiatus, the Women's soccer program kicked off their 2021 season on Saturday. The Lady Raiders hosted the Vikings from Hudson Valley Community College. FMCC dropped the match by a score of 3-1.

The Vikings got out to a quick within the first eight minutes of the game. FM had some defensive mistakes that led to a 2-0 lead early in the first half.

Ashley Engle had an opportunity at goal, but the shot hit the cross bar. In the 43rd minute, Brianna Hubiak sent a ball to Lindsey Hampton who was able to break through to find the back of the net to set the score 2-1 heading into half time.

In the second half, neither team was able to get much offense going. In the 70th minute, HVCC's Marilyn Decker scored the final goal of the game to secure the victory.

FM's Goalkeeper, Hope Buboltz finished with five saves in the loss.

The Lady Raiders look to rebound on Monday, September 13th when they host Herkimer College at 2:00 p.m.
