Generals’ attack thwarts Raiders

JOHNSTOWN – The Generals of Herkimer CCC are currently ranked eighth nationally among D-III schools. When the Generals invaded the Raiders Den on Thursday evening they lived up to their high ranking. The Raiders put up a good fight, but the visitors won 90-68.

The visitors asserted themselves right away. FM's Carlos Rivera tallied two in the paint, and Marquis Edwards hit for three from the left side, but the Generals led 7-5 and were about to build on that lead.

Kenny Barr sank a three-pointer and Kyle Giddings put back a rebound, but Herkimer led 22-10. It was 26-12 at the 10-minute mark.

Rivera scored twice, and Edwards drained another three as the Raiders tried to get back into the game. Dondre Davis scored three times from the line, Kenny Barr sank two FTs and added a field goal, but the visitors led 50-28 at the break.

Early in the second half, Khaleeq Baum scored a beautiful, twisting, crafty layup (pictured), but HCCC still led by 20.

Dondre Davis sank a trey. (See photo below.) Edwards and Giddings added field goals, but Herkimer maintained their 20-point lead.

Edwards added three more points the hard way. As he shot from three-point range on the right side, he was fouled and knocked to the floor. Edwards then stepped to the line and sank all three FTs.

Herkimer continued their balanced attack and won the game 90-68.

The Raiders will have a day to rest and prepare for a good challenge on Saturday.  FM will travel to Mohawk Valley in Utica for a 3:00 game with the always-tough Hawks.
