The men's basketball team picked up a win in their 2022 season opener on Tuesday night. The Raiders traveled to Hudson Valley Community College and defeated the Vikings, 97-88.

FMCC jumped out to a quick 19-5 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. Jelani Moreno paced the Raiders in the first half with 20 points, including 6 three pointers. FM closed out the half leading 54-34.

The Vikings would not go away, as they made a run in the second half, trailing 76-88 with 4 minutes to play. They were able to get within 6 points, but the Raiders closed out the game to secure the victory.

Moreno finished with 25 points and 4 assists. Jevonny Brown was big off the bench for FM, finishing with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. De'Vante Mateo had 18 points and Jamal Smith and Kennyh Hardeman each had 11.

"I was proud of how my guys came out and played together. First game together on the road against a proven program, conference game, and they came out with the energy needed to win ball games. It was a total team effort with guys contributing and playing their roles. I think we had 9 different guys playing over 15 minutes, that takes a team mindset. We also took away a lot we can work on to improve game by game, but it was a great start to the season," stated head Coach Ej Gallup

The Raiders next contest will be at home on Saturday, November 12th. They will host Clinton Community College at 1:00 p.m.
