Men's Basketball Defeats Dutchess In Overtime

On Saturday, The Raider Basketball Squad was dominant in another Region 3 Victory over Cayuga. FMCC defeated The Spartans, 112-54. The victory marked the new program record for consecutive wins with 13.

On Sunday, The Raiders hosted the #14 nationally ranked Dutchess Falcons in the Raiders Den.

Prior to the game, Head Coach Ej Gallup honored 10 sophomores: Jordan Jackson, Jacob Craig, Donovan Rodriguez, Gary Simms, Kennyh Hardeman, Nahjhime Kirton, Nick Butler, Ian Holland, Aiden Monroe and Ryu Taira.

Dutchess opened the game leading 12-6. Kennyh Hardeman was able to take the lead for FM, 24-23 with 10 minutes remaining in the half. Over the next five minutes, The Raiders reeled off 10 straight points and were able to close out the half leading, 57-48.

Donovan Rodriguez had the hot hand to start the second half and The Raiders had their biggest lead, 67-53 with 15 minutes to play. The Falcons would continue to claw their way back into the ball game and trailed by five points with 10 minutes to go.

Rodriguez hit back-to-back threes for FM with two minutes remaining and the home team led, 92-83. Dutchess would go on a 10-1 run over the final minute to force overtime, 97-97.

In overtime, it was all Raiders as they outscored Dutchess, 21-12 in the extra period. FMCC sank 10 points for the foul line to aid in the 118-109 victory.

Donovan Rodriguez led with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Kennyh Hardeman followed with 26 points and 10 rebounds and Nahjhime Kirton with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Schumel Shepherd came off the bench to score 18 points and 10 assists. The Raiders shot 61.5% from the field and 54.5% from three.

The win extends the win streak to 14 games. The Raiders have one regular season game remaining as they travel to Herkimer on Wednesday, February 21st. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
